RileyLots of useful information in a somewhat messy, crowded format. I really wish that herp guides had the market (and money) to devote to the formatting aspects that really make a field guide useful, like bird field guides do. As a technical writer myself some aspects of the design were a bit cringe-worthy, and I got the distinct impression that the authors/editors were trying to cram as much info into as little space as possible, which is understandable but not the most efficient way to create a field guide, as in my opinion at least a good field guide needs to be something that you can use, quickly, to identify something unknown.I found the grouped plates the most useful in actual field settings, while the info pages were better for pre-trip planning.I would purchase this again.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.They are the best for TexasBy Jared WoodI teach herpetology at a private institution in Texas.
