It wasn’t to be. I read the whole book expecting it to pick up at any moment but really it was a book about two relatively straightforward investigations with potential twists which didn’t happen and with strangely wooden dialogue and a cardboard Harry Bosch who walked through the book carrying on stilted conversations and providing little insight into his character. I know that if you’ve read the previous Bosch books, we know a lot about him, but there was NO character conveyed in this book at all.The investigations in this story were not really “intertwined” as advertised and when I got to the (rather abrupt) end, I wondered why they had been included into the same book. I gave it three stars cause I read it all the way through and vaguely enjoyed the procedural aspect of the investigations. But it felt more like a tv show script rather than a good novel. If you are new to Michael Connelly, do not start here! Go back to his earliest works. The spark and thrill of those books were totally missing in this one.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Another Fantastic Story!By Lily RobinsonWorking old unsolved cases, Harry is given a ‘hit’—DNA from a 1989 rape/murder case matches a convicted rapist. The only problem is the 29-year-old convict would have been eight years old at the time of the murder. Before Harry can make any real headway into the case, he is baffled to be assigned to a current case, and told it takes priority over everything. Why did his long-time enemy request his involvement in the investigation of his son’s death—an apparent suicideI had previously read The Black Echo, so was familiar with the Harry Bosch series. I had particularly liked the true-to-life feel of Connelly’s writing. This book was just as realistic. The characters have well-developed strengths and flaws, giving them great depth. Connelly’s story flows easily, making the pace enjoyable to read. He includes just enough technical jargon to give the story an insider’s feel. Descriptions are detailed, but not flowery. There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot to keep you on the edge of your seat.I plan to read more books in this series.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. They all lie.By LacelleEverybody lies. Cops lie. Witnesses lie. Victims lie. I don't know how accurate this book is in defining and explaining trial procedures, but if it's on target, fascinating! There is a lot of "outrage" and insulting remarks made by both the prosecutor and defense attorney, all played to a jury of 12. Sometimes it comes down to which is the better actor.Mickey Haller "inherits" cases when a friend, Jerry Vincent, a fellow defense attorney, is murdered. The friend has Haller as co-counsel and if anything happened to him, then Mickey would get his cases. One of the cases is a high profile involving a movie producer, Walter Elliott, accused of the brutal murder of his trophy wife and her lover. The accused refuses to delay the trial, insisting on no continuances, even though Mickey is new to the case. Elliott is confident and secure that he will be acquitted and is refusing to take the trial seriously. Mickey is convinced that he is defending an innocent man. There are surprising twists and turns, Haller meets Harry Bosch, his half-brother.I know the Lincoln Lawyer, the movie with McConoghay (I can't spell it, okay) portrayed Mickey Haller in a different light than I see in these books. He reminds me more of Joe Pesci. What is a brass verdict Sometimes it is the only true verdict.See all 2537 customer reviews... Tolexo - Online Marketplace for Industrial Goods Safety ...
