He is determined to put his war years behind him and start a much more simpler life. It seems everyone in town wants to honor the war hero at every turn, this is making things that much harder for Sax. His quiet life is disturbed when a long ago buried bone is found on his property. This brings the local law around, which is his high school crush Kara Conway.Sheriff Kara Conway moved back home to take over as Sheriff after the sudden death of her father. She also is brought home her young son Trey. Both Trey and Kara are learning to rebuild their lives without Jared Conway. Jared was killed in the line of duty and Kara believes Shelter Bay will help them both heal.Kara sees Sax as a great role model for her young son. He needs a positive male influence in his life. Spending time with Sax involving the bones found on his property has her seeing Sax as more then someone to influence her son.Sax always had a soft spot for Kara during high school. But he always knew she was Jared's girl. Now he sees her as a strong woman and someone that he wants to get to know on a more personal level.The Homecoming is stellar. The characters are complex and are dealing with real emotions. Their relationship isn't easy but the journey is well worth any stops along the way. The secondary romance of Kara's mother Faith and her deputy John O'Roarke is exceptional as it deals with love the second time around. You can't go wrong in picking up any JoAnn Ross novel.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.DON'T WASTE YOUR TIMEBy PBThe storyline follows Kara, the town Sheriff, widowed, with a son and Sax a Navy Seal who returns to the town to re-build a local restaurant. They were an item in high school and now are re-united.First, let me say I'm the type of person who always, no matter how long it takes, finishes a book. Well I deserve a medal for finishing this book. Horrible. Boring. Childish. Just plain stupid at times, for example, do we really have a need to know how a 55+ man can "deflate" his ____and how Kara is glad she's wearing sun glasses so Sax can't see the desire in her eyes....really this is adult fiction Not the adults I know. I am absolutely shocked and find it hard to believe this book received one 5 star rating much less all the 5 stars rating here now, they must not have read the same book I read. Trying not to be redundant with the other reviews all I can say is don't waste your time.Pros: noneCons:Characters have no personalityTo few characters so easy to figure out who committed the murderStupid immature sexual descriptions dialogueUnreal situations , example ghosts appear out of nowhere and then suddenly leave for good with no substantial rationaleShort ReviewImmature dialogue + lack of character development + no suspense + no plot = SKIP IT !0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Was OkayBy JoyDecent enough story with likable characters, but there was too much going on at once (not speaking of the relationship but all the circumstances and events). I think had there been a bit more focus or more time spent unraveling the story, it would have gone a lot smoother.One of my biggest peeves were the ghosts mentioned in the book. It was an intriguing option to add - but the explanation or resolution was badly handled and left hanging awkwardly. I'm assuming that they faded away due to the main character moving forward and on with his life. I'm sure that was the goal but the way it was written (or lack thereof) just didn't come through.See all 78 customer reviews...
