I've been a computer programmer for 15 years and I'm very savvy with computers, including programs like Gimp, although I had very little experience with 3D. Maybe I misunderstood some things, but it felt to me that the initial chapters (1 2) skipped over things too quickly. I pretty much gave up on page 25 because I couldn't reproduce the steps and no matter how many times I read the instructions, I simply didn't understand what I was supposed to do. I think the authors should have gotten a friend who has little 3D experience but has a lot of computer experience and watched the person go through the book or provide very detailed feedback. I'm sure what I missed is very basic, but I got stuck, frustrated, and gave up. I'm going to try another Blender book. Maybe it's just a limitation of a book format trying to teach 3D concepts, but I hope it's different. I was not a complete beginner and had to stumble through some details that didn't explain the events with clarity. I have been accused of being an idiot before...but not a complete idiot so that wasn't the problem. If you have experience with Blender and want to expand your skill set there are some cool projects in this book to help you.
